Finally, the examinations are over. I practically exhausted my June holidays, the worst in my entire history of studying. Week 1-4 was packed with papers, papers and never ending amounts of papers! Well, it was indeed a tumultous journey (or should I say tumultous BORE/CHORE) to wake up everyday and see those stacks of papers. I felt so tired- mentally and physically. It was definitely not surprising to see me smiling from end to end after the Biology paper and UNSW("Here today, gone tomorrow") Mathematics paper, even though I seriously doubt I did well enough for an average score! The meeting with Shirley after that was a great break for me, away from work,ELDDS and other nonsensical matters that life brings along when it comes knocking on your door. On Tuesday, I met North at City Hall MRT station, before meeting the two girls. Prior to that, he gave me a call, said there were no IJ girls around. Worst of all, I was late, thanks to my aunties who got obssessed with Giant hypermart, thanks to the train which never left on time. When I got there, North was already there, oblivious to the two girls who were hidden away at one corner and busy chattering to themselves. Then,we walked to Marina Square. Well, the girls had no opinion as to what they wanted to eat and where they wanted to go, so us guys had to take the lead. But, like the girls, North stood behind me and left his hand at the waist, signalling for me to lead the way. Ouch! Unfortunately, I picked the wrong place. Marina Square seemed like a ghost town to me! Their shops and restaurants were all empty! But it was good as well...At least we didn't have to wait. I searched the directory for the list of eateries they had. Then, I asked : 'Do you mind McDonalds, Burger King or KFC this kind of thing?' Shirley and her friend,Si En, said they didn't and that anything was fine, while North just looked blankly at me. Ouch! Finally, I spotted one :Genki Sushi! It was apt for the moment! I asked them again: 'How about Genki Sushi?'. The girls said they didn't mind and anything was fine. Ouch again! So the four of us walked and tried locating Genki Sushi, which was on Level 2. We moved up the escalators, then sauntered past some shops before I finally realised. I turned around and said to them:' Ermm, we are on Level 3. So, let's go down'. We moved on and alas, managed to find Genki Sushi. However, there was this relatively enticing poster from Jack's Place hanging down from the upper level. I couldn't help but ask them:'How about Jack's Place instead?'. Surprisingly, both girls answered in unison:'Yes!' Since the poster was hung on the upper level and the restaurants were hidden behind our range of sight, we took the escalator up to the 2nd level before realising that it was on the level we came from. Ouch, once more! I went into the restaurant and requested a table for four. We sat down, then the waitress passed us the menu. Then, another waitress came and asked for our orders. When we had decided what we wanted, I tried getting the waitress, who was busy speaking to another waitress at the counter, to come to our table. When it was to no avail, Shirley adjusted her vocal chords and pretended to cough really loudly. But the waitress seemed oblivious. Finally, I raised my voice and said 'Excuse me', still unable to contain the smiles induced by that hilarious episode. We continued our chat and from there allowed us to know more about them and vice versa. (For one, I didn't know Si En attended RMUN!). There was the handphone matter(of which Shirley claimed that her posture wasn't obvious enough for the teacher to catch her!) , school administration issues and much more. Then came the food. This was when bad service started to set in. The waiter served 3 glasses of Coke and 1 glass of Sprite, when we had asked for 3 glasses of Sprite and 1 class of Coke! And not forgetting the waitress taking away the cutlery before the food came, saying that Si En ordered the baked rice, North the beef sphagetti, Shirley and I the chicken cutlets. Then North asked, ' What if I needed the knife for my spaghetti?'. Hahax, yeah perhaps, perhaps! So we chatted on and on until we left the restaurant. Again, we tried getting the waitress to come, again to no avail. So Shirley tried once more to pretend coughing, but in the end, I gave up and said:' Let's pay at the counter instead!'. So we went to the counter to pay up. This time, the waitress noticed us and gave us the bill. The way we paid for the meal was seriously in the weirdest fashion I had ever seen! We took the receipt and placed our notes on the counter, one by one! There was the triple plus sign, and I was too lazy to calculate the actual prices, so I told the girls:' No treats, but I will help waive the taxes!' After we left the restaurant, I asked the girls where they wanted to go. Then, Shirley replied in a very habitual manner:'Anything lah, you lead the way!', before moving behind me and North. I asked:' Why me? You girls decide and we'll go.' Well, that was pointless anyway, for we walked 2 big rounds in Marina Square with no aim or specific shops. So, I was sick and tired of walking in a ghost town, and decided to walk to Suntec City. Along the way, the girls got interested in North's education in S'pore. And Shirley kept harping on the language issue:'What other languages do the students in your school study?','If I learn Thai, it will look good in my resume, so I can tell people that at least i know how to say hello and ask whether they have eaten!'Lol! Then came the point about North being good in Maths( i forgot how it came about!) Shirley rushed into Cocoa Tree, grabbed a packet of sweets and asked him how many sweets were there, before asking how many packets were on the shelf! We moved up to the 2nd level and waited for North( who went to the toilet) outside Reds salon. There, Shirley eagerly pointed out to Si En:'There! They put that thing on top of my head!' I said:'That's a heater right? You straightened your hair?' She nodded her head in agreement and replied:'Yah why?Cannot see meh?' I looked a bit stunned and quickly said :'Yes,yes..' But Shirley, I supposed it was done quite some time ago! (The effects are starting to wear off.) Then, she noticed the price list for the different hair services and said:' I know! Let's ask North to count the minimum amount needed to make use of all services within 10 seconds!' Lol! We moved further into the mall before I suddenly told North:'Too bad it's not 6.30pm yet, if not we could go hit the arcades!' North looked stunned and replied:'Why cannnot? Can what!' I gave him the stunned look, then said:'Cannot! It is against the law!' North snapped quickly:'Last time I did you know! You mean I can't?' So, i asked:' How did you manage to go in?' North gave me the answer he took from Thailand:'I just walked in. But can pay them money!' Without hesitation, I shouted:'North, this is not Thailand you know!'All four of us started laughing. When we reached the arcade, Shirley said:'Why don't we try walking in in our school uni?' I looked at her and said:'If you dare, anything. I won't be asked to go out cos it's over.' Hahax!I should have taken that pose of her halfway in between the entrance of the arcade in photo! I took the lead and walked into the arcade, followed by North and the 2 girls. But as soon as Si En stepped in, the personnel were there to chase them out! Shirley acted blur, and gave a smug look before I turned her around and said:'Oops, out we go!' Then like at Marina Square we circled Suntec City, while North told us how 3 pairs of socks became 1 and a half pairs! It was around 6.40pm, so I asked the 2 girls:'Where do you live?' Si En replied Bishan, while Shirley replied Woodlands!'Wow, then you'd better go home quick!' I snapped! We walked down to the exit at Tower 4 and tried crossing the road. Traffic was heavy but North didn't seem to care, walking across to the island as if he owned it! Immediately, i shouted out to him:' North, do you really treat this as Thailand?!' Shirley broke out into laughter and asked:'Bryan, why everything also Thailand?' Yeah, I couldn't help it. We walked to the MRT station via Citylink. At the MRT station, Shirley and Si En tried taking the escalator to the line back to Pasir Ris. Hahax thank goodness i stopped them in time! I asked:'Isn't your line supposed to be on the other side?' Shirley ran to the signboard and checked:'Yup it is!' What a day! Those 2 girls were nice, funny people! It was definitely a good break, albeit being short, for me, to keep my mind away from everything, even if it was temporary... |
