Urban getaways
I finally decided that today would be a good day for me to de-stress, given the cool weather that is quite unlikely in Singapore. After today's session of tuition, I headed down to Takashimaya SC so that I could visit the bookstore. The previous time I went to Kinokuniya Liang Court, there was only 1 copy of "The Time Traveler's Wife" left and it was already in pretty bad condition. Thankfully, there were so many copies at the Takashimaya outlet. It is a very interesting story about the relationship between a girl named Clare and her partner, Henry, whose genetic clock periodically resets and causes him to travel through time. Right from the start, I could tell that the writing played on the vivid descriptions of the characters and scenes. The words evoked strong feelings in me as well. The style of writing is also very unique, having two points of views from each person about what happens at the same time. I remember that my former English tuition teacher had told me about the twists and turns of time in this book, so that makes it all the more interesting.
The Time Traveler's Wife
I realised that I am very picky nowadays when it comes to the kind of books I like to read. Books that have poor storylines, out they go. Books that don't enchant me like movies do, don't bother. A good book must be able to evoke the most of feelings, and I know lots of books don't have that, even if they claim to be bestsellers.
I wanted to purchase a cookbook so that I can learn how to make new dishes, especially italian. I chanced upon "Cook With Jamie: My guide to making you a better cook" and was impressed with the various dishes and deserts that were found within the cookbook. There was the pasta, risotto and for once, carrot cake looked quite appealing to me! But the heavy price tag of $69 put me off (since I have yet to pay off almost $300+). I just have to wait till next month when I receive my fees again. Number 1 on my wishlist!
After purchasing the book, I went down to the basement to eat Japanese food. Well, it looked pretty appetising but it was quite disappointing. The meat, though well fried, tasted bland as there was not enough seasoning done. Besides, the special sauce just tasted like soya sauce plus a bit of vinegar, so I will not pay $15 for something like that again. Never.
